Importance of Donation in this Yuga

In this Yuga, the present age described in Hindu philosophy as a time of moral decline and materialism, donation (Dāna) holds special importance. Scriptures teach that while intense penance and meditation were suitable in earlier ages, charity and selfless giving are the most effective spiritual practices in Kali Yuga. Donating food, money, knowledge, or service purifies wealth, reduces ego and greed, supports those in need, and brings inner peace. Even small acts of generosity done with pure intention are believed to create great spiritual merit in this Yuga.

  1. How Can I Support the New Temple?

There are many ways to participate:

  • Make a New Temple Pledge
  • Fulfill an Existing Pledge
  • Make a One-Time Donation
  • Set Up Monthly Recurring Contributions
  • Donate Appreciated Stock
  • Donate through a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)
  • Use Employer Matching Donations
  • Participate in Employer Volunteer Matching (“Dollars for Doers”)
  • Donate in Honor or Memory of a Loved One

Every contribution, regardless of size, brings us one step closer to completing our temple.

  1. How Do I Make a New Temple Pledge?

Step 1 – Obtain a Pledge Form

Pick up a New Temple Construction Pledge Form at the temple.

Step 2 – Complete the Form

Please complete the form legibly and include:

  • Primary Devotee Name
  • Secondary Devotee (Spouse/Parent), if applicable
  • Address
  • Email Address(es)
  • Phone Number(s)
  • Total Pledge Amount
  • Planned Payment Schedule
  • Signature and Date

If the pledge is being made on behalf of a parent, spouse, relative, loved one, or in memory of someone, please indicate this in the Notes section.

Step 3 – Submit the Form

You may:

Option 1 (Preferred)

Hand the completed pledge form to a Temple Volunteer or Priest.

Scan both sides of the completed pledge form and email it to:

  1. How Do I Fulfill My Pledge?

Pledges of $1,000 or Less

To minimize administrative effort, pledges of $1,000 or less are expected to be fulfilled in full when the completed pledge form is submitted.

Pledges Greater Than $1,000

Devotees may fulfill their pledge over time.

Suggested construction milestones are:

  • 40% upon completion of Land Development
  • 50% upon 50% completion of Building Construction
  • Final 10% upon completion of the Temple Building

You are always welcome to fulfill your pledge earlier or make additional contributions at any time.

  • Credit Card at the Temple
  • Appreciated Stock
  • Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)

Important

If the payment is being made by someone other than the Primary Devotee or Pledge Holder (for example, a spouse, child, sibling, employer, or family member), please include the Pledge Holder’s Name with every payment.

This helps the Accounting Team correctly reconcile donations and apply each payment to the appropriate pledge.

  1. Can My Employer Match My Donation?

Yes. Many employers offer Matching Gift Programs, allowing them to match your charitable donation—often doubling or even tripling your impact at no additional cost to you.

Simply:

  1. Make your donation.
  2. Submit a matching request through your employer’s giving portal.
  3. Once approved, your employer sends the matching contribution directly to the eligible nonprofit.

Please check with your Human Resources department or employer’s giving portal for eligibility.

  1. What If My Employer Does Not Match Religious Organizations?

Some employers do not match donations made directly to religious organizations. However, many of these same employers do match donations made to the Cultural Society of Flower Mound, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the temple’s educational, cultural, and community programs.

How It Works

  1. Donate to the Cultural Society of Flower Mound.
  2. Submit your employer matching request.
  3. Your employer sends the matching contribution to the Cultural Society.

Temple Membership Recognition

The Flower Mound Hindu Temple recognizes the generosity of devotees who support our mission through the Cultural Society.

Qualifying donations made to the Cultural Society, together with eligible employer matching contributions, may be recognized toward Flower Mound Hindu Temple membership levels, including:

  • Lifetime Membership
  • Trustee Membership
  • Honorary Trustee Membership

Membership recognition is based on the total qualifying contribution received and the temple’s current membership guidelines.

  1. Does My Company Match Volunteer Hours?

Many employers also participate in Volunteer Matching (often called Dollars for Doers).

Simply:

  • Volunteer at the temple.
  • Record your volunteer hours.
  • Submit the hours through your employer’s volunteer program.

Many companies donate funds to the temple based on employee volunteer hours—providing additional support at no cost to you.

You may also support the New Temple Project through:

  • Appreciated Stock Donations
  • Donor-Advised Funds (DAF)
  • One-Time Donations
  • Monthly Recurring Contributions
  • Donations in Honor or Memory of Loved Ones

These giving options may provide additional tax advantages. Please consult your tax advisor.

  1. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make a pledge on behalf of a parent or loved one?

Yes. Please indicate this clearly on the pledge form.

Can someone else make payments toward my pledge?

Yes. If someone other than the Primary Devotee is making payments, please include the Pledge Holder’s Name with each payment so it can be correctly applied.

Can I complete my pledge early?

Absolutely. You may fulfill your pledge at any time.

Can employer matching contributions count toward Temple Membership?

Yes. Qualifying employer matching contributions received through eligible donation programs, including those made through the Cultural Society of Flower Mound, may be recognized toward Temple membership levels in accordance with current temple membership guidelines.
